While it’s true that George Orwell was an insufferable leftist right up until the day he died, we can still learn much from many of his writings, as they display the disillusionment he felt when socialism leaped from intellectual theory and into real-world practice. The fruity rainbow images of the “worker’s paradise” espoused by the average left-wing college professor never seemed to materialize for Orwell once they were actually implemented. While Animal Farm and 1984 are his two most well recognized works regarding his personal disappointment with socialism, his lesser known book The Road to Wigan Pier is demonstrative of this as well.

This book is divided into two parts, the first being a description of the British working class and Orwell’s time spent among them. The second part is is just as relative today as it was in 1937, as Orwell goes on to describe in great detail the divide between the middle class intellectuals who advocate a system supposedly in favor of “the worker”, while at the same time being completely alienated from or holding in outright contempt the very same people for whom they claim to advocate. Orwell refers to these people as “Cranks” – the modern day equivalent of which would be the swarms of “Social Justice Warriors” infesting our college campuses or the “Champagne Socialist” celebrities found slithering around Hollywood.

Does this sound familiar?

‘Socialism’ and ‘Communism’ draws towards it with magnetic force every fruit-juice drinker, nudist, sandal-wearer, sex-maniac, Quaker, ‘Nature Cure’ quack, pacifist and feminist in England.

He also makes mention of:

that dreary tribe of high-minded women and sandal-wearers and bearded fruit-juice drinkers who come flocking towards the smell of ‘progress’ like bluebottles to a dead cat
.

While The Road to Wigan Pier is an obvious attempt to further promote the failed policies of socialism, for those of us on the Right it remains important that we steer clear of conservative echo chambers and frequently immerse ourselves in this sort of material, so that we may stockpile sufficient ammunition with which to better combat our leftist foes. It can come in quite handy during a debate to inform your enemy that Orwell would consider them a “sandal-wearing vegetarian sex-maniac” or a “fruit-juice drinker with a wilting beard”.

George Orwell’s classic allegory of the Bolshevik Revolution and the oppressive “Socialist Utopia” that followed it. Infinitely important, as it can never be reinforced enough in this day and age that socialism – while sounding wonderful in theory – is always the opposite in practice.

Orwell – like the majority of all socialists – never renounced this insane “equality cult” and went to his grave thinking this failed ideology could be successfully implemented if given “one more chance” and if the “right people” were in charge. In spite of his obvious wit and wisdom, he never seemed to come to grips with the fact that 1984 is what you get when you implement socialism, and Animal Farm is how you get there.

George Orwell 1984

Time for that tale of a “boot stepping on a human face for all eternity” that you all know and love. I figured that after I mentioned it in my previous post that I might as well throw it on here. Maybe it “conjured” itself up? Maybe the Telescreen demanded it…. At any rate here’s the dystopian novel that has now become an instruction manual for the worldwide progressive left. It’s Hate Week time! Let’s get it on, Proles and Party members!
